CAPRON, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a charter bus in Southampton County.

State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says one person was killed and one was seriously injured in the Friday morning crash on U.S. Route 58 in Capron. She says six passengers ranging from ages 13 to 17 escaped injury. The students were headed from Chapel Hill, N.C., to attend an open house at Hampton University.

Anaya says the driver lost control and the bus ran off the road and overturned in a ditch. No other vehicles were involved.

Two passengers were ejected. Anaya identified the person who died as 58-year-old Doval Emmanuel Watson of Chapel Hill.  Another passenger was taken to Norfolk General Hospital.

It wasn't immediately known what company owned the bus.
