Suspected Arsonists Posting Among The Ranks

Posted: Updated:

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. - Over the past 5 months, law enforcement hasn't released much information about the Accomack Arson investigation, sending thousands to social media for comfort and answers.

In at least 2 of those groups dedicated to tracking the 77 fires throughout the eastern shore of Virginia, the alleged fire starters were in their midst, and apparently, they were pretty active online.

WMDT found Teechar Toobannounced, the account apparently shared by Tonya Bundick and Charles Smith III posted a number of times in one group with messages like "...the arsonist could be among us" and "...I myself am not afraid, just cautious..."

Dr. Kathryn Seifert, a psychologist who specializes in criminal profiling, believes this type of behavior is in line with that of a fire-starter, because it isn't just about destruction..."it's getting as much attention from as many people as possible," she says.

On March 14th, the morning after the fire at Old Mallard's restaurant on Bayside Road in Onancock, VA, Teechar Toobannounced made a number of comments in the "Arsons in Accomack" Facebook group.  Considering what is currently known about Bundick and Smith and their involvement in Monday's arson, one of the most disturbing posts reads

"I have often wondered if arsonist is reading and laughs..."

Tonya Bundick and Charles Smith III have only been charged in relation to one of the 77 fires and have not been convicted of the crime.
