Nominate A Leader For The Jesse Klump Memorial Fund Scholarship

Posted: Updated:

SNOW HILL, Md. - At 17-years-old college or prom is a high school senior's biggest challenge.

For Snow Hill student Jesse Klump, changing the world was his.

"He really cared about being able to create this utopian world. We didn't realize how much weight he was putting on that in his mind," said Jesse's sister, Leah Klump.

Leah says he was a leader, and talented in both sports and music. Months before graduation in 2009, he took his own life.

"It was after he passed away a lot of people started coming up to us and telling us stories about things that Jesse had done for them, that really made an impact on their lives that effected them," she said.

Leah says that's how the Jesse Klump Memorial Fund got started, to help exemplary scholars at Snow Hill high pursue higher education. For this scholarship, the student doesn't have to apply.

"We accept nominations from other members of the community. The reason is we want to reward students for having done things and don't expect any reward or recognition," said Jesse's former Co-worker and now the Secretary Treasurer of the fund, Ron Pilling.

Like Jesse, the desire to better the world is a must. The deadline for this scholarship is May 1st. Again, you cannot apply, but if you know someone you'd like to nominate go to jessespaddle.org.
