UPDATE: Police Release Identity Of Driver In Somerset Co. Car Chase

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - We have new details about Sunday morning's reported high speed chase. Princess Anne police are awaiting the results of an autopsy as to the cause of death for a man who reportedly drowned early Sunday morning in the Wicomico River.

Officials say that the man refused to pull over and took police on a high speed chase. He then reportedly drove into a field and ran on foot before jumping into the Wicomico River off of Redding Ferry Road in Somerset County.

Police say they went after the man when he was nearly half way to the opposite side of the river, but came out due to cold temperatures. A water rescue team was called to the scene where they recovered the body around 5:30 AM. Police have released the identity of the driver, as Julius Chandler Jr., 59, of Eden. His body has been turned over to the Chief Medical Examiners in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Police confirm the two officers were treated for a mild case of hypothermia.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
