Laurel Church Drops Eggs From Sky For Easter Celebration

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Del. - It's an Easter Saturday for the town of Laurel.

From crowds watching the U.S. Naval Academy parachuting to eggs dropping from the skies, it's a big race to gather as many eggs as possible.

Zoey Niblett, a North Laurel Elementary fourth grader says she liked when "the eggs dropped and we had to go get them."

But some kids only have one thing on their minds: candy.

Sidney Hastings says that the egg drop"will probably look cool," but she still wanted candy.

The egg drop came as an idea from church staff at Central Worship Center who saw a similar event in Virginia. Rep. Tim Dukes (R), who is also a pastor at the church,  says he jumped on board, bringing that, along with a moon bounce, face painting and a hunt to the town.

"It's kind of fascinating just watching the eggs roll or and bouncing on the ground, but the neatest thing really is just seeing the kids faces," said Dukes.

We're told nearly a 1,000 showed up to the event with close to 10,000 total eggs. Dukes says he hopes the event will reach out to even more people in the community next year.
