NEW CASTLE, DE. (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden says the designation of Delaware's first national monument is a proud moment for the state.
Biden spoke Tuesday at the Old Sheriff's House in Old New Castle. The site is one of three in Delaware that supporters say will attract tourist dollars and federal funding.
The First State National Monument designated by the president on Monday includes the Old Sheriff's House, the New Castle Court House and Green, The Green in Dover, and the 1,100-acre Woodlawn property near Brandywine Creek State Park.
President Barack Obama designated a total of five new national monuments, using executive authority to protect historic or ecologically significant sites.
