DelDot To Discuss Delmarva Railroad

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Delaware Transit Corporation along with the Maryland Department of Transportation, has conducted a study of passenger rail service to downstate Delaware and Eastern Shore Maryland. Results of the study to date will be presented at a workshop March 27th.

The Delmarva Rail Study examined the potential for Amtrak service from points on the Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C. and New York City to destinations in the resort area. Within Delaware this would be mainly on existing Norfolk Southern Railway track and possibly the Maryland and Delaware Railroad extending to Berlin, Maryland. At the request of Maryland DOT, the potential and cost of reestablishing rail service to Ocean City was also examined.

Public comments will be incorporated into the final report of the study's initial phase. DTC staff and project consultants will be on hand to discuss the study and receive comments from the public. A brief presentation will be made at 4:30 and 6 p.m.

Interested persons are invited to express their views in writing, giving reasons for support of or in opposition to, the proposed project. Comments will be received during the workshop or can be mailed to DelDOT Public Relations, P.O. Box 778, Dover, DE 19903. When applicable, we offer the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire online which will automatically get emailed to Public Relations.
