Dover Man Charged In Convenience Store Robbery

DOVER, Del. - A Dover man was arrested, after he allegedly robbed a convenience store.

According to Dover Police, officers responded to a the 7-11 on S. New Street, for a reported robbery in progress. Officers at the scene say that they were able to arrest 31-year-old Malek Watkins, as he reportedly fled from the store.

Police say Watkins planned the robbery with another suspect outside of the store, before going inside, wearing a hoodie on his head with a bandana over his face.

Once inside, Watkins reportedly indicated that he had a gun in his pocket, and demanded money from the store clerk. Watkins then apparently fled towards Tire King on S. Governors Avenue, where police caught up with him and took him into custody. The second suspect was not apprehended.

Watkins was charged with 1st degree robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and 2nd degree conspiracy. He is being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional on $56,000 bond.
