ST. MICHAELS, Md. - An early morning house fire in St. Michaels, that took the life of a man, remains under investigation. The Maryland State Fire Marshal, Maryland State Police, and St. Michaels Police are all investigating the fatal blaze that reportedly started around 12:30 AM on Thursday, on North Street.
Officials say that while firefighters were extinguishing the flames, they found the body of an adult male in a bedroom. According to the Fire Marshal, it took 35 firefighters from three departments, fifteen minutes to control the blaze. Damages are estimated at $45,000.
Officials say that one working smoke alarm was found on the countertop in the kitchen of the home. The identity and cause of death of the victim will be released by the Medical Examiner. The cause of the fire, which was called in by a neighbor, is still being investigated.
