SALSIBURY, Md. - Revitalizing Downtown Salisbury is a big topic this election season, and Remedy Church located on the plaza, is taking that into their own hands with a little bit of Easter fun for the whole community.
"We really believe that downtown should be hopping!" says Lead Pastor Ryan Weaver, and no, that wasn't a cheesy Easter Bunny joke (despite the perfect timing).
Founded in 2009 and relocated to a building on the Downtown Plaza in December 2011, Remedy Church isn't a conventional place of worship, but Lead Pastor Ryan Weaver says that's all a part of their strategy.
"We, from the very beginning hoped to be a people who were a part of the downtown revitalization," says Ryan, and the community egg hunt is just one way they want to help. In addition to two egg hunts, one for kids birth to three, and one for kids four to twelve, there will be bounce houses, food, and games. Additionally, Downtown businesses are set to have special promotions.
But for this small church of only about 100, an egg hunt of this size is a big undertaking. They say support from the community has been overwhelming with businesses across Salisbury donating eggs stuffed with candy and coupons. According to Pastor Derick Weaver "right now, in our space, we have actually over 2,500 eggs sitting there and only about 200 of them are from our people."
Hoping to fill the Downtown Plaza with nearly 7,000 eggs by Easter weekend, Remedy Church is still looking for more donations.
If you ask the folks at Remedy Church how many people are they expecting, so far 25 families have registered, but Derick says the sky's the limit!
"We want people to notice downtown and see the beauty here so as many as we can get!"
The free Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th from 2 - 4 PM. Pre-registration closes March 23rd, but all are welcome to join.
