WMDT 47 NEWS - Choptank Electric Co-Op is doing more than lighting your homes and businesses, they also have the power to help send deserving students to college, through their Operation Roundup program.
"What we ask members to do, is to round up their monthly bill to the nearest dollar, and through that we fund the scholarships," said Anne Whaples, Manager of Cooperative Communications.
They've got seven $2,000 checks ready for any senior from the 9-county region. Officials say one of last year's winners, Hayden Hall, was so grateful he decided to give back.
"He's a student at the Delaware College of Art and Design, and just as a little way of saying thank you for the scholarship, he drew this very interesting picture," said Whaples.
There's also another scholarship, fit for any age. For their 75th Anniversary, Choptank is bringing back the "Luck of The Draw" where students put their name in a hat, and hope to get picked. Only five will win $1,000 towards college.
If you would like a chance to win the "Luck of The Draw" scholarship, and you meet the qualifications, make sure you attend the following meeting! It's being held at the Wicomico Youth And Civic Center on Tuesday April 16th at 4:30 p.m. The deadline for the other scholarship is March 31st.
