After reading reports of a church bookkeeper being charged with the theft of $600,000, Fargo Accounting called the event “a disgrace.”

Fargo, ND (PRWEB) March 17, 2013

After spending $13,000 on a forensic audit of their financial records, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s Northwestern Minnesota Synod had its bookkeeper arrested, according to a report by WDAY 6, a local ABC affiliate. The 61 year old bookkeeper, Robert Larson, has been charged with felony theft and check forgery. The editor for FargoAccountingFirm.com called the event disgraceful, and hopes that this unsavory crime has not colored anyone’s opinion of bookkeeping and accounting in general. Handling the money and wellbeing of others is a huge responsibility, and one the majority of accountants and bookkeepers take very seriously. Fargo Accounting Firm hopes that the Northwestern Minnesota Synod won’t allow this experience to lower their impression of the accounting profession.

According to WDAY 6 News, Larson, who is still awaiting trial, supposedly spent the majority of the stolen funds renovating his home in Wolverton. Insurance has replaced over half of the stolen cash, but the synod is still trying to recoup the remainder of its losses.

According to the news report, the Synod staff has retained the services of a professional accounting firm in Moorhead for their future bookkeeping. The editor at Fargo Accounting Firm is certain their new accountants will take the responsibility seriously.

Discovering a betrayal by a trusted member of the staff can rock most organizations to its core, and when that betrayal costs the organization over half a million dollars, the blow hits all the harder. Thankfully for the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the theft was discovered sooner rather than later. Fargo Accounting believes such a brazen act of betrayal is a disgrace, and hopes that in the future, the Synod, and other organizations, will rely on professional accounting firms.

Fargo Accounting Firm provides the public with information to help them successfully obtain the services of professional accountants that fit their needs.
