SWAC Goes Broadway

Posted: Updated:

FRUITLAND, Md. - The Salisbury Wicomico Art Council (SWAC) went Broadway for it's annual fundraiser Saturday Night.

WMDT's Alyana Gomez was there to host the evening, which included dinner, dancing and an auction, to raise money in support of the organization.

Funds will cover a large portion of the nonprofit's operating budget, which helps local, state and national arts advocacy and arts education.

"People don't realize the arts are an economic and academic engine so when children take art in school, their test scores are higher, truancy is down," said Therese Hamilton, Executive Director of  SWAC. "You don't see a kid with a tuba on their hip ditching school."

It was one of two major fundraisers for SWAC, but the organization still needs your help. To learn more visit their website: www.getSWAC.org.
