SALISBURY, Md. - Dorothy K. Wiley, 94, of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Baltimore on February 16, 1919 she was the daughter of the late F. Guy Kelly and Cora Edna Kelly. Raised in Anne Arundel County, MD and attended Friendship Methodist Church which property later became part of the Friendship International Airport. Dorothy graduated from Glen Burnie High School and Easton & Burnett Business College in Baltimore. In 1938 she went to work with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a secretary in Washington, DC. The office was moved to Chicago because of WWII. After marriage she worked as a secretary at a bank in Chicago, the Board of Education in Brookfield, Illinois and wound up her business career as a legal secretary. She was appointed by the court in Michigan to serve as a professional legal guardian to incapacitated persons. Dorothy was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Salisbury and had previously been a member of Lutheran Churches in Brookfield, Illinois, Benton Harbor, Michigan and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 50 years and was awarded her gold star for her years of service to the organization. She had an apartment in the home of her sister and brother in law's home in Mallard Landing Retirement Community in Salisbury, Maryland for 10 years before moving to the John B. Parsons Assisted Living Facility. She later moved to Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and was a resident there for three years. While living in Mallard Landing she was a member of the Library Committee. She was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and had a strong interest in politics, a great sense of humor, plus a ready smile.
Her husband Robert Ward Wiley passed in 1991. She is survived by her sister, Isabelle K. Smith and a brother in law, William J. Smith Jr., both of Salisbury; a nephew, Stephen C. Smith of Severna Park, Maryland and a niece Anita S. Bavis of Annapolis, Maryland; three grand nieces, Jessica S. Quigley of Arnold, Maryland, Alice Bavis Rausch of Millville, Delaware, Emily Abigail Moquin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and one grandnephew, Lucas O'Neill Smith of Atlanta, Georgia.
A private interment will be held at Friendship Methodist Cemetery in Anne Arundel County.
