From Danny:
I am Danny Lockhart, Jr. I was diagnosed with scoliosis when
I was three years old. It progressively got worse. From 1st grade through 6th
grade I was in and out of several different back braces. Ultimately, just prior
to entering 9th grade August, 2010 I was scheduled for surgery. The surgery
lasted nearly 12 hours. Although the back surgery was deemed a success, my neck
became permanently dislocated during the surgery.
This was not a surgical risk and was not supposed to have happened. As a
result, I missed my entire 9th grade year and had to undergo several more
surgeries to stabilize my neck. During my many weeks in the hospital and ongoing
follow-up visits, I have gotten to know many other kids who have been ill or
injured. With my traumatic injury, I became one of the wish kids of The Make a
Wish Foundation.
My wish was to meet J.J. Roth, host of The Worst
Show Ever on 93.5 The Beach radio station, as well as be his co-host on my 16th
birthday. My family and I got to spend the entire week in Ocean City, Maryland.
Many businesses and people reached out to me through my wish experience. Most
people have a single wish experience. My experience has gone on for more than 6
months. In addition to my week at the beach, J.J. has remained my friend and is
a part of our family now. I was gifted by a radio listener with tickets to see
the Ravens vs. Redskin game in December from Eagle Salvage. Also, Island Bay
Days organizer Gina Wilkerson-Scherl called in and gave my family and J.J. VIP
passes to their October event. I've had the opportunity to meet some bands,
Charm City Devils, Korupt, and The Cheaters just to name a few. I want to give
back and help other children have something AMAZING happen to them. The Make a
Wish Foundation support not only terminally ill children, but also children who
have life threatening medical conditions either from illness or injury. Please
help me to make a difference in another child's life.
