SALISBURY, Md - Evelyn Hamilton White completed her earthly journey on March 8, 2013 at home with her family by her side. Born in Limestone, Maine on June 8, 1912, she was the eldest of the seven children of George P. Hamilton and Elsie Thompson Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Robert B. White. She is survived by both her son, George Hamilton White and his wife Phyliss and her daughter, Deborah White Poole and her husband Chris of Salisbury, three grandchildren, Kimberly White Muraskin and her husband Seth of Penn Laird, Virginia, Julie Poole Doughty and her husband Roger of Pleasant Plain, Ohio and Mark Hamilton Poole and his wife Kim of Troutville, Virginia, eight cherished great grandchildren, Rebecca, Robert and Sarah Doughty, Timothy and Benjamin Muraskin, and Evelyn, Emma and Charlotte Poole, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.

She attended Abbott Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, graduated from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and subsequently completed graduate courses at Syracuse College in New York and University of Maryland. She taught home economics at the high school in Caribou, Maine. Following her marriage she devoted herself to her family, while active in the local PTA, Girl Scouts and in her later years she tutored in a literacy program at the Wicomico County Library. Evelyn was a member of Wicomico Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and contributed her talent as a pianist. She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. She had wide ranging interests in books, art, music, gardening and was an ardent tennis fan. Known as the consummate hostess, her culinary skills were lovingly shared with family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Wicomico Presbyterian Church at 129 Broad Street, Salisbury, Maryland 21801.  In lieu of flowers her family suggests donations may be made to the Wicomico Presbyterian Church Memorial Endowment Fund, Coastal Hospice PO Box 1733 Salisbury, MD 21802 or a charity of choice.
