GOOD MORNING DELMARVA - Village of Hope officials announced today that registration for the 4th annual Great Clue Caper: An Amazing Race to Benefit the Village of Hope is now open at www.greatcluecaper.com.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th. Jackie Jennings, former news anchor and event chair said, "The Great Clue Caper is a really fun way for people who like to solve puzzles and seek out clues to match wits against other teams for the chance to win $2,000.
The event benefits the Village of Hope, a Salisbury charitable organization that provides a transitional living program for homeless women and their children and also operates a medical clinic for the financially disadvantaged. Besides being great fun for over 300 participants in 2012, the Caper raised more than $50,000 for the Village."
Ms. Jennings said that the event, started in 2010, consists of 50 teams following clues throughout the area with a goal of reaching the finish line first. She said that the cost to participate is $25 per person. The winning team receives a check for $1000 plus a $1000 donation to the non-profit organization of its choice.
The Great Clue Caper begins at the Village of Hope at 1p.m. at the Village of Hope. Pre-registration is required. A post-race party is planned for all contestants.
Registration is available online at www.greatcluecaper.com. For more information, please contact Jackie Jennings at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 410-543-9192
Background information for THE GREAT CLUE CAPER:
The date of the race is SUNDAY, APRIL 14. Check-in opens at 11 a.m. at the Village of Hope, 1001 Lake St. in Salisbury.
Teams must be checked in by 12:30 p.m. The race begins promptly at 1 p.m. Please arrive as a team in a single vehicle, if possible. Parking is limited and the race ends at a different location, so retrieving extra cars will be a nuisance! All team members must travel in a single vehicle throughout the race. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes! The race will be held rain or shine; we will cancel only in the event of extreme weather.
No special equipment is needed, though it might be helpful to bring a map of Wicomico County or GPS, a pen, a local phone book and a set of encyclopedias. Just kidding on the encyclopedias. (Maybe.) Technology is good but don't get carried away. A full tank of gas and some petty cash, however, is just smart planning.
Teams will receive a CLUE BOOK at the Village of Hope. It will contain the CLUES you need to win the race. Read each clue very carefully, and follow the directions to find a specific location. All clue locations are within Wicomico County. Pay attention! Anything could be a hint!
The race should take approximately three hours. At the end of the race, we are hosting a block party with live music, entertainment and food provided by the Local Owner Restaurant Association (LORA). Your registration in the race is also a ticket to the party! Should you wish to buy tickets for friends or family members not running the race, they are available on-line at www.greatcluecaper.com through March 31. Tickets for those not running the race are $20.
The team that arrives at the finish line on time with the most clues solved will win the race. The winning team will receive a check for $1,000 and a $1,000 donation to the non-profit organization of their choice. The non-profit must be 501c3 designated. Don't have a 501c3 you like? The Village of Hope is a good choice! Additional door prizes will be given at the party.
Teams must have a minimum of two people and a maximum of five people. Any exceptions must be cleared by the GCC chair.
The race is open to all ages, but each team must register at least one adult.
In order to participate in the race, teams must be checked in and paid in full by 12:30 p.m. on April 14, 2013.
Start times will be determined at check-in.
All team members must travel in a single vehicle for the duration of the race. Team members must stay together at CLUE sites.
Teams may not substitute members at any time after check-in or add members after check-in.
Teams must follow all traffic laws throughout the race. Any team determined to be speeding or driving recklessly will be disqualified.
Teams may buy a "phone hint" at the start of the race. The phone hint may be used at any time during the race to help with an answer. "Lost" or "stuck" teams may return to the Village to receive a free hint from the Village Idiot. Just remember, he's slow.
Teams are forbidden from intentionally or unintentionally hindering the performance of other teams IN ANY WAY, i.e. taking props from a clue site, blocking another team's vehicle, altering a clue site.
The team that arrives at the finish line on time with the most puzzles solved, tasks completed and CLUE BOOK in hand will win. Any disputes will be resolved by the Great Clue Caper Committee.
The winning team will receive a check for $1,000 and a $1,000 donation to the non-profit 501c3 of their choice. If there is any question of an organization's 501c3 status, the check will be withheld until the status can be verified.
The Great Clue Caper committee reserves the right to modify or add to these rules as needed.
