Five New Businesses Open Up In Downtown Cambridge

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md. -- If you plan to visit historic Downtown Cambridge in the near future, expect to see some new storefronts. With the economy slowing rising, businesses are coming back to this Eastern Shore town.

"Cambridge has something special it's on the waterfront it is historic and it adds an ambiance that people feel comfortable with," Mari Stanley, director of Cambridge Main Street tells us.

Business is booming in downtown Cambridge, with five new shops sprouting up this spring. On June first a new bill allowing craft breweries to sell in Dorchester County takes effect, and Realerevival Brewing hopes to open their doors soon after.

It's Worth the wait for Cambridge native J.T. Merryweather.

"I've see downtown landscape go from a place that was bustling to nothing and now over the last 5, 10 years there has been a push for revitalization and for a local resident what more could I do for my community," he tells us.

It's encouraging news for newcomers. WMDT met up with Leslie Grove, who's opening up her business Saturday. It's an upscale consignment shop she took over from a friend called Magnolia Grove.

"I'm really excited to be here with the restaurant opening down the street, a brewery up a little further it's really exciting place to be," she tells us.

Construction is well underway at what will soon be Stoked Wood Fired Eatery. This is Chef Patrick Fanning's second restaurant in downtown Cambridge, and he hopes to open up shop next month.

"Our first restaurant The High Spot has been very successful and it's also meeting a niche," he tells us.

Other businesses expected to open up shop include, Another Place Another Time Consignment Boutique, and Vintage & Vogue.
