WMDT 47 NEWS - An encouraging update, that has culminated a lot quicker than imagined.
Last Thursday we told you about James Henderson's final wishes, and already one woman is rallying community support in his name.
It's been a whirlwind for the Henderson family. For 20 months, James has been fighting off an aggressive form of brain cancer, but recently found out his tumor was inoperable. Now he tells WMDT dying is no longer a fear of his.
"I have to just accept that's the way it is. I want to wake up and feel good," said James in his first interview in one year.
Now there is a glimmer of hope, with more community support. Matia Spicer of Laurel met the Henderson family through the Tabernacle Church and says after seeing our story air, she felt compelled to help.
"My heart bled for them and I've been taking them meals every week," she said.
She also started an online fund on giveforward.com. Matia says empathy is another driving force behind her campaign, since she is facing a similar battle.
"I have an incurable disease that I had to stop my career teaching. We lost all our health benefits that way. My husband was in an automobile accident a year and a half ago, has permanent spine damage, had one surgery and needs another," said Matia.
Putting her own struggle on the back burner, this woman says all she wants is "Hope For The Hendersons."
The goal is set for $50,000, but Matia says every little bit helps. If you can't donate, she's asking that you share the link with your friends on your Facebook and Twitter.
The link is shown above, but can also be found on our WMDT Facebook page.
