BIVALVE, Md. - A Nanticoke father and son have been arrested after police reportedly found drugs and an unregistered gun in their vehicle. The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says that a Deputy stopped a vehicle on Nanticoke Road in Bivalve, after they recognized the passenger as a wanted fugitive.
During the stop, the passenger, 24-year-old John W. Bass III, apparently admitted to being wanted, and exited the vehicle. The Deputy says that while Bass III was getting out, they noticed a bag on the floor of the car, where upon investigation, the Deputy reportedly found a loaded .32 semi-automatic pistol.
Officials say the driver, 49-year-old John W. Bass Jr., claimed that the gun was his, but neither father, nor son, had a permit for the gun. The deputy continued to search the vehicle, where more than two pounds of marijuana were reportedly recovered, in a USPS box. Both men were arrested.
Police then searched the Bass home, where they say they found another handgun, and a set of digital scales. Bass III is prohibited from having a firearm, after three felony convictions for possession of marijuana in Texas.
Both are charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in drug trafficking crime, and handgun on person. Bass III was additionally charged with firearm possession by prohibited person. Bass Jr. is being held on $125,000 bond, and Bass III on $250,000, both at the Detention Center.
