BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - From truck driving to manufacturing, if you are in need of a job, the new Goodwill Job Resource Center in Bridgeville is ready to help.
"Individuals need help finding jobs and connecting with employers," said Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County president/CEO Colleen Morrone.
The effort from Goodwill requires community support. Organizations like the Indian River School District are on board. They realize to help kids succeed, they want to help some parents find jobs.
"It's going to be a lifesaver for families, because right now the job status in lower Sussex County is grim," said Michele Murphy, a Parent Resource Center Coordinator at the Indian River School District.
Businesses like Grayling are moving to Seaford, Del. from Juarez, Mexico.
Julie Wheatley, Sussex County director of economic development says "there's going to be 115 jobs and we need to get the skilled people they are seeking people to hire."
Wheatley says the company will be using the center to help fill those jobs.
Morrone says the center will be putting all the pieces together to help market job seekers, whether if they want to look through an old job postings book or utilize their computers and apply online. The center will help locals in Sussex County create an online resume.
In the most recent unemployment report for Sussex County released in January, of the 91,000 residents, 8,180, or 9 percent, are currently unemployed. These numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
There's reason for concern, considering the State of Delaware's average is currently 7.9 percent and the national average, released on March 8th, is 7.7 percent.
Still, for Goodwill, Morrone says "the goal is that we're here everyday and to help meet those needs."
This is the third Goodwill Job Resource Center in the region. A fourth will be opening up this summer in Dover.
The facility will also help anyone with any financial issues, through Goodwill's and United Way of Delaware's "Stand By Me" program. They say their goal is to help manage finances to increase residents' financial stability.
