SALISBURY, Md. - Frank Augustus Baker, Jr. 86, of Salisbury, died on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his residence. Born in Millington, MD, he was the son of the late Rev. Frank A. Baker, Sr. who died August 7, 1969 and Louise Saunere Reybold Baker who died January 21, 1982.
Mr. Baker was a US Marine veteran having served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre as a machine gunner and rifleman. He was part of the 4th Division Assault Force on Iowa Jima in 1944. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded on this invasion, which led to over 3 years of hospitalization. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 194, Iowa Jima Survivors Association and the Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Barbara Atallian Baker; a daughter and son-in-law (who was like a son), Melinda Baker Banks & Howard W. Banks of Salisbury; a son and daughter-in-law (who was like a daughter), Frank A. Baker III and Ellen D. Baker of Salisbury; 5 grandchildren, Christine B. Hudson, Brian H. Banks, Jonathan P. Banks, Frank A. Baker IV and Kyle A. Baker; 4 step children, James Atallian of Lewes, DE, Robert Atallian and Rene Rischetelli, both of Lewes and Terri Shapter of Milford; a brother, Paul Terrance Baker of Salisbury; 6 step grandchildren, Rebecca, Christopher, Jason, Bryan, Nicholas and Jenna; 5 great grandchildren, John, Abigail, Hallie, Zarah and Regan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Louise Baker, who died September 20, 1995; a daughter, Christine Louise Baker, who died December 12, 1960; a step-daughter, Karen Spencer; a sister, Frances "Dollie" Robinson; and a brother, Rev. David W. Baker.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 12:00 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Rev. Jonathan Baker, Rev. Jay Hurley and Rev. Harry Weir will officiate.
