Del. Implements New Regulations On Cyberbullying

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware school students are going to have be careful about what they say online.

New regulations at prohibiting cyberbullying in Delaware take effect within the next few days. They define cyberbullying as electronic communication directed at an identifiable student or group that interferes with a student's physical well-being, is threatening or intimidating, or is likely to limit a student's ability to participate in educational programs.

The determination on whether speech constitutes cyberbullying will be based on the standpoint of a "reasonable student" of the same grade and other circumstances as the victim.

The new regulations cover communications posted in a medium likely to be available to a broad audience within the school community, regardless of privacy settings.  Officials say that includes postings on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, and Pinterest.
