Deal Island Man Accused Of Door To Door Theft Scheme

DEAL ISLAND, Md. - A man has been arrested for allegedly soliciting donations for the Deal Island Fire Department, to fuel his drug habit.

The Somerset County Sheriff's Department received several complaints about Timothy Abbott from residents. They say Abbott, who is not a fire fighter, had been going door-to-door asking for cash donations in exchange for a free smoke detector. Those smoke detectors had been reported stolen from the fire department.

Abbott has been charged with 9 counts of fraud-misrepresentation for fund raising, theft scheme less than $1,000, theft value less than $1,000, and violating a court ordered protective order. He is being held on $25,000 bond.
