WMDT 47 NEWS - Maryland Senate made major strides in gun control.
They voted in favor of the bill, which has a licensing requirement for handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to state police.
The provision is expected to reduce the number of guns purchased by a friend or family member for someone who is not allowed to own a gun.
But one local Senator disagrees that this bill will make residents safer.
"Criminals don't obey the law, that's why they call them criminals," said Sen. Richard Colburn (R Dist. 37). "If you're a criminal, you're not going to be finger-printed. You're not going to license a hand gun. You're going to purchase a gun illegally."
Colburn says he expects the House of Delegates to pass the bill.
