Bronx, NY (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
The Bronx Music Heritage Center (BMHC) seeks applications from Bronx artists for its Artist-in-Residence program. The BMHC Artist-in-Residence program, which was created in honor of the rich musical legacy of the Bronx, aims to support and promote the work of inspired Bronx musicians and artists, and to engage the community in that work.
The Residency offers four months of work and exhibition/performance space in the BMHC Laboratory at no cost to Bronx artists for the creation and implementation of a specific creative project and arts activities for the community. The BMHC Artist-in-Residence program is open to artists and artisans in any discipline with a new project that has a clear connection to music, and offers a stipend to the selected artist.
The BMHC Lab is a 1,400 sq. ft. storefront incubator in the Crotona East/Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx, where BMHC programming currently takes place. It opened in April 2012 and is a “pop-up” space for sharing and experiencing music and art until the BMHC settles into its permanent home in Bronx Commons, a WHEDco development in Melrose that will break ground in 2014.
Founded by WHEDco in 2010, the BMHC celebrates the rich history and creative spirit that defines Bronx music, from jazz, salsa, R&B and hip-hop to new sounds coming to life across the borough. The BMHC is committed to preserving and promoting Bronx music, cultivating Bronx artists, spurring neighborhood revival, and providing free cultural programs for the community. The BMHC hosts performances, screenings, exhibits and discussions, and provides artists with a space to create and share their work.
