Apps, Social Media Frenzy For Oscar Night

WMDT 47 NEWS - While the stars celebrate the best of the big screens, the real Academy Award action for movie lovers could be on the smaller screens.

As Delmarva sits back and roots on their favorite films at the Academy Awards, if the recent Super Bowl and Grammy Awards are any indication, Oscar night may be another social media blockbuster.

I've seen Lincoln and I've the other ones, and I think Argo is the best movie," said Clay Larrimore of Rock Hall, Md.

Lori Blackmon says Lincoln will take home the "Best Picture" because of its "great historical view point from the history of Lincoln and Lincoln's compassion for people."

Viewers can now use their Android, Apple and Kindle products as a behind-the-scenes companion with the Official App for the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony and see red carpet and backstage steaming video.

But does social media buzz translate into Oscar gold? Several websites, including Google Trends are tracking the Oscars online. Topsy is tracking Academy Award chatter about nominees in six categories, including "Best Picture."
