GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Longtime Republican Party leaders in Sussex County are poised to take over the local party's top positions.
Acting chairman John Rieley is unopposed in his bid to become chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee. A district chair, Fred Silva, is the only contender to become vice chair.
Rieley was named acting chairman after the death of Chairman Jerry Woods on Dec. 28.
The 57-year-old Rieley says Sussex is the stronghold for Republicans in Delaware, and he intends to keep it that way. He previously coordinated Christine O'Donnell's U.S. Senate campaign in the county.
