MD Residents Discuss Marijuana Proposals

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A bill to legalize marijuana in Maryland is in the works and locals are sounding off.

Del. Curt Anderson (D-Dist. 43) introduced the measure on Thursday. It would make marijuana legal for adults 21 and over, as well as create a system to regulate and tax it like alcohol.

The measure would direct the Maryland comptroller to license marijuana retail stores, wholesale facilities and testing facilities.

WMDT hit the streets today to see what local residents have to say about it.

"I think it should be legalized," said Hollis Duerr. "It mellows people out. It's not like alcohol."

"I don't see how the politicians can say it's okay when cigarettes are supposed to be killing us and alcohol is supposed to be killing us," said Donald Derickson of Hebron, Md.

"I think it'll be profitable," said Seth Poffenberger of Hagerstown, Md. "A lot of people smoke marijuana, so I think it'll be a great idea."
