Woman, 29, Dies In Newport Crash, Daughter Lives

Posted: Updated:

NEWPORT, Del. (AP) - A 29-year-old Wilmington woman is dead after a fatal single car crash in Newport, but her infant daughter survived.

Delaware State Police troopers say a motorist called authorities at 12:35 p.m. Monday to report seeing a vehicle in a wooded area near I-95. Troopers found Kristy Long and her 1-year-old daughter Aubrey Carter in the car and pronounced Long dead at the scene. Aubrey, who was in a car seat, was treated at a hospital and released.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation found Long was traveling on I-95 southbound at the exit for State Route 141 northbound. Instead of following the lane to the right onto the off ramp her vehicle traveled straight and into a ditch. Troopers say the car was discovered within hours of the crash.
