Del. officials Extend Deadline For Volunteer Award

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Officials in Delaware say they're extending a deadline to nominate young people for a volunteer award given by the governor.

Friday had been the deadline for nominations for the Governor's Outstanding Youth Volunteer Service Awards. But officials say they want to encourage more nominations and so they've extended the awards deadline to Feb. 28.

The awards honor individuals, school organizations and community groups for their volunteer work in the state. Individual nominees must have volunteered at least 50 hours and must be 18 years old and younger. Groups have to have volunteered 100 hours.

An awards ceremony is planned for April 25.
