OCEAN CITY, Md. - Del. Mike McDermott (R-Dist. 38B) is looking to make Maryland a more business-friendly state.
He is hoping to pass HB-104, also known as "Good Faith Actions by Business Owners" bill that he says would prevent the Commissioner of Labor from fining a business that unintentionally violates the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Act.
According to McDermott, the bill would save businesses thousands of dollars.
"A lot of people look at this as a punitive tax, when the state needs more money they'll send out more inspectors," said McDermott. "What we would do is basically say,' look you know, the first time this time happens to you, they change the regulations every couple of months, a lot of people don't even know they're violating the law.'"
The bill was introduced to the Economic Matters Committee on February 12th.
