OCEAN CITY, Md. -- Thousands will soon be hitting the pavement in Ocean City, all in the name of breast cancer, and helping women right here on the Eastern Shore.
Friday, representatives kicked off the 2nd annual Komen Maryland Ocean City Race for the Cure. The race takes place Sunday, April 21 on the boardwalk.
Since 1998, Eastern Shore programs received more than 3 million dollars in funding from Komen Maryland. With 75 percent of the proceeds staying here in the state, officials say it's important to get more women involved, especially this year.
"This year the race in Maryland, Hunt Valley, fell short. So we're one of 10 states that have a second race. This will be the second year in Ocean City, and it's incredibly important that this race rise up to the forefront," Dr. Susan Forlifer tells us.
"We've created a destination type of event. On Saturday we've got lots of stuff for the families to do with planet maze, skate for the sure, and a concert right here at Seacrets, and the benefits from this all go to Komen Maryland," Margo Mandes, Race Development Coordinator tells us.
