High Voltage Allstars Reaching New Heights

SALISBURY, Md. - From back flips to aerial tricks and slick dance moves, Sabrina Brown and the High Voltage All Stars are building quite a name for themselves.

In the past five competitions, they took home 13 first place awards.

Brown is a member of "Power Surge," one of six teams within the Salisbury based organization taking titles and trophies across Maryland and Virginia.

There's also competitive dance teams, special needs teams and even mini cheer teams.  

"We're here all the time, working on new skills and trying to achieve more than we already have," said Brown.

Despite the obvious technical difficulty and physical demands, Brown says the most painful part is convincing nay-sayers that cheering is a sport.

"They view it as a sideline thing, when actually, we're athletes ourselves," said Brown. "Practice is six times a week for some people. We put a lot of work into what we do."

Success, they say, comes from complete commitment, which may seem like a lot for such young people. But for Brown, it's worth it.

"Cheerleading is my life," said Brown. "I've tried other things but this is what it's always come back to."
