UMES Plans Scholarship Ball In Place Of Celebrity Gala

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is planning a spring scholarship fundraiser as one of the main highlights in President Juliette Bell's inauguration week in April.

The Diamond Jubilee Scholarship Ball will replace the annual UMES Celebrity Gala that raised thousands of dollars for the school in years past.

"Every year the Somerset County community and the Eastern Shore community comes out in support of the students and that's what it's always been about. Nothing that we do this year tied to the inauguration or that we do in years forward will change that. We're here for the students. We're here to raise money for the student, and that's what's going to happen," Assistant to the President Dr. Rolanda Burney said.
