Married Couple Convicted Of Staging Robbery In Ocean City

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - The couple charged with staging a robbery inside a West Ocean City hat store will be spending years behind bars.

Kevin Purnell and his wife Roslyn Purnell have been found guilty on all charges related to stealing
$28,000 in merchandise from Lids back in August.

Kevin Purnell, a clerk at Lids, told police that a man attacked him inside the store, put a gun to his back and stole merchandise and chase. But police say surveillance video showed a woman, not a man, binding his hands and feet - and that Purnell had no physical injuries.

Authorities say he and his wife were arrested in Baltimore two weeks later when their van carrying 800 hats was stopped.

Both have been sentenced to serve at least 5 years in prison.
