Dover Mall Supports Children's Literacy

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, DE -  A local mall is supporting reading to children at home, with a fun event. Simon Malls is hosting their free, annual event, Simon Kidgits Club, Book Blast!  This years event will be held at the Dover Mall on February 16th from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.

Activities for children at the event include library tote bag decorating, making bookmarks, playing sight word BINGO and much more.

Children are also welcome to bring new or gently used books to the event to promote the importance of reading within the community. The books will be donated to Telamon Head Start of Kent and Sussex Counties, a program that helps children of low income families.

Simon Kidgits Club, which was created in 2003, invites families to participate and encourages reading together at home. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, a study has shown that children who are read to at home enjoy larger advantages compared to those who are not.

The director of marketing and business development says,"Simon Kidgits Club continuously aims to provide children enjoyable, easily accessible educational opportunities that incorporate some fun and Book Blast! does just that."
