SALISBURY, Md. - An update on the sexual abuse case involving a Wi- Hi teacher and a student.
Last year Steven Kiggins pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a minor and is currently serving a four-year active prison sentence, but the charges against the Wicomico County Board of Education and former Wi-Hi Principal Lorenzo Hughes have been dismissed. Those charges included negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, respondeat superior, and battery.
Superintendent Dr. John Frederickson issued this statement to us saying "We're pleased to learn of the decision of the courts and we will continue to work with the courts in the case of a possible appeal. Our sympathies go out to the families of the victim. We will work to continue our training, observation and screening processes to protect our children to the very best of our ability."
