Md. Man Found Guilty In Death Of NC Teen

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of a North Carolina teenager.

Jurors found Michael Maurice Johnson guilty on Wednesday, the third day of deliberations in the trial.

The 28-year-old Johnson was accused in the 2010 slaying of 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes. The teenager from Monroe, N.C., was visiting relatives in Baltimore when she disappeared. Her body was found in the Susquehanna River months after she went missing.

Prosecutors called more than 30 witnesses during the trial. Defense lawyers called one. Johnson did not testify.

Defense lawyers told the jury in closing arguments that prosecutors failed to show a motive.
