Supporters Of Pit Bull Measure To Rally

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Supporters of changing Maryland law to address a court ruling that singled out pit bulls as an "inherently dangerous" breed are scheduled to rally in Maryland.

Dog owners will be rallying on Tuesday in Annapolis.

The Court of Appeals ruling last year means that pit bull owners and landlords are held to strict liability standards for dog bites without previous evidence that a dog was dangerous.

A compromise approach to changing the law has been reached by lawmakers.

The measure increases protections for dog bit victims by creating a presumption that all dog owners should know the pet presented a danger. A dog owner who becomes a court defendant after a bite will have a chance in court to try to prove the dog was not dangerous.
