WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington police have arrested two men in connection with the weekend shooting of a police officer.
Authorities said Monday that 20-year-old Jared Wiggins and 21-year-old Ronald Boyce were taken into custody after the Sunday afternoon shooting of officer Justin Wilkers. Wilkers, a 34-year-old who has been on the police force for three years, was shot in the face after a traffic stop and ensuing car chase. He was in serious but stable condition Monday and scheduled for surgery on Tuesday.
Wiggins, the alleged driver of the suspect vehicle, is charged with failing to obey a police signal, resisting arrest, and providing a false statement. Boyce is charged with resisting arrest. Police were still searching for a third suspect, whose name was not released.
