O'Malley To Visit Gretna, La., Before Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will visit Gretna, La., when the two officials head to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
They plan to visit the town on Saturday.
They will be recognizing more than 160 years of close ties between the cities of Baltimore and Gretna. The ties began with the 1850 bequest of the fortune of Baltimore native and Gretna resident John McDonogh to the schools of New Orleans and Baltimore.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Baltimore sent 150 police, fire, and public works employees to help Gretna and St. Bernard Parish.
Gretna Mayor Ronnie Harris is scheduled to make a special presentation to Maryland officials at the Gretna Market.
