B.P.O Of Elks Celebrates Americanism And Student's Patriotism

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md - The Benevolent Protective Order (B.P.O) of Elks showed off their national pride by hosting an Americanism Awards Banquet.

The Banquet was a celebration of the work that many students in Dorchester County did on what being an American meant to them. Students either had to write an essay on what the National Anthem meant to them or do a poster on what they believe defines America. Over 125 students submitted essays or posters for the program and 3 finalists were picked to receive a medal and award while being possibly eligible to the state level.

"This is the first year that we've had it here in Dorchester. It has been a national incentive for all the Elks Lodges all over the nation to do these contests. We do hoop shoots, soccer shoots, and a lot of scholarships. It just shows support for all the kids in the county. It's not just the winners, but it's also to show what great kids we have in this community. They are certainly going to go on to college and better things," Says Catherine Gullion, Treasurer of the B.P.O. of Elks
