WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. - Two Worcester County organizations have three scholarships at $1,000 each, all available for students with one interest in mind: nature.
"You really want to save the planet and encourage the kids to beautify and keep what we have," said Sunny Lee, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee for the Ocean Pines Gardening Club.
The Ocean Pines Gardening Club takes its members on a number of excursions, while the Worcester County Gardening Club has experts on-hand to teach the techniques.
"Our main job, I think is to educate people onto gardening, whether it be flower designing or how to grow things, or just how to landscape your property," said Marion Novack with the Worcester County Gardening Club.
Both organizations are looking for a student pursuing a degree in ecology, horticulture, marine biology or any other related field. While Worcester County's scholarship is available for any student living in the county, Ocean Pines' is open only to Stephen Decatur Seniors.
"They can be a child or grandchild of an active member of the Ocean Pines Garden club," said Lee.
Both scholarships have an April deadline. Go to our homepage and click on the DEF logo for more details and how to apply.
