SALISBURY, Md. - As January comes to an end, so too does "National Mentoring Month," so local organizers are sending off mentors in style.
The Wicomico Mentoring Project and Big Brothers and Big Sisters celebrated those who contributed throughout the year at Prince Street Elementary School.
Organizers say this is a way to show their appreciation for the more than 500 mentors who help encourage students to succeed.
"What we really want is to have our children graduate from high school, because they'll be able to go on and be a more productive citizen," said Henrietta Parker, Wicomico Mentoring Project coordinator.
"We're definitely getting out to local gyms as people are out there starting their New Year resolution, so we've been able to reach a lot of people," said Jessica Mimms, Big Brothers Big Sisters-Eastern Shore director.
Big Brothers Big Sisters will be offering a "Mentoring 101" session at the Greater Salisbury Building on Feb. 27th starting at 6:00 p.m.
