Cambridge Elks to host Americanism Awards Banquet

Posted: Updated:

Cambridge, Md - The Cambridge Lodge will be holding an Americanism Awards Banquet on February 1st.

A month ago, organizers sent out notices to all the schools and picked the best piece of work of the students, and broke it down into two categories: Posters and Essays.

The posters were done based on "My Favorite Symbol of America" in three different age brackets. The essays were done based on "What Does the National Anthem Mean to Me" for two different age brackets. The lodge met and chose three finalists in each of the five categories and each of the three finalists will receive an invitation to the award banquet, where the actual winners will be announced.

"We had over 75 students that submitted essays for grade seven and eight. we had over 50 for grades five to six and we had about 100 or so posters that were submitted through all the kids of the county. this was a county wide thing that we do. It's done once a year in attention to our kids programs. And it's really just showing the community that we're here, that we're out there to do stuff with the kids and for the kids we have a huge program" says Catherine Gullion, treasurer of Cambridge Elk Lodges.
