Ireton, Albero Face Off At "Meet The Candidate" Forum

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md - Mayor Jim Ireton and businessman and local Blogger Joe Albero squared off tonight at the First Baptist Church in Wicomico County to address any concerns residents have and to improve their chances of being the next Mayor of Salisbury.

"We're excited to be having a conversation with the community. We're going to talk about the drop in our crime rate, downtown revitalization and the clean up of the river. We are going to speak about some very inconvenient truths from my opponent and I'm not going to shy away from that. I'm more excited than I was in 2009, when I ran for Mayor the first time," says Ireton.

But Albero questioned Ireton's leadership and vision as well as going on to say that Salisbury as a whole is lacking businesses.

"Someone needs to go out and reach out and bring that business to Salisbury. That hasn't been done for 16 years and that's one of my major game plans to reach out. Instead of waiting for things to fall in our laps, I'm going to aggressively go out and bring business to Salisbury as an economic development director," says Albero.

Many residents say they are glad to have these forums and they have concerns themselves that they want to be addressed.

"Personally, I would like to see more programs for the youth in this Town. I think that's something that's pretty much fallen by the wayside. I know there are some good programs that are available for the youth today, but I think more could be done with the youth," says James Holbrook, a resident of Salisbury.

The forum was held by The Wicomico County Branch of the NAACP.

The primary election will be held February 26, 2013. The general election will be held April 2, 2013. To see a full list of candidates for the primary click here.
