DOVER, Del. - A woman, who pleaded guilty to abusing her son's corpse, has been sentenced.

In July 2012, Karen Hooks, 33, of Dover was arrested, after Delaware State Police received a tip, that Hook's two-year-old son was missing. A search of her Squire Circle home revealed human remains of a child. At that time, Hooks was arrested, charged with abusing a corpse, and held on bond.

In November, she pled guilty to two counts of providing a false statement, one count of theft over $1,500, and one count of abuse of a corpse.

On Tuesday, Hooks was sentenced to one year in prison, followed by one year of probation. She also has to pay $4,500 in restitution to the State of Delaware. Hooks will also have to undergo a mental evaluation, and follow any recommended treatment, along with stay employed and provide the State with a DNA sample.
