Three Arrested After Reportedly Fighting With A Police Officer

Posted: Updated:

PITTSVILLE, Md. - Three people were arrested on Sunday, after they allegedly ganged up on an officer.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, a deputy saw William Tubbs, 21, of Willards, who appeared to be intoxicated, causing a disturbance outside of a Gumboro Road business. The deputy says there were two women, Dawn Merritt, 41, of Laurel, and Jody Tubbs, 25, of Salisbury, were trying to calm him down. William reportedly threw his ID at the deputy, after he was asked for it.

After this, Police say that the deputy tried to restrain William, but was grabbed by the two women, so the deputy couldn't. The deputy says they attempted to take William into custody again, but Merritt and Jody, interfered again. After that, Police say that the two women tried to shield Williams from the deputy, so the deputy tried to arrest Merritt, but Jody punched the deputy in the face.

The deputy was apparently finally able to take Merritt into custody, when Jody saw this, she reportedly started kicking and punching the deputy, but the deputy was able to restrain her, and take her into custody as well. During this whole ordeal, William fled the scene, but the deputy found him behind a dumpster nearby, he was also taken into custody.

William Tubbs was charged with failure to obey lawful order, disturbance of the peace, and resisting arrest. He is being held at the detention center on $30,000 bond. Dawn Merritt was charged with interfere with an arrest, failure to obey lawful order, disturbance of the peace, and resisting arrest. She is being held on $35,000 bond at the detention center. Jody Tubbs was also charged with similar charges, plus 2nd degree assault. She is being held at the detention center on $50,000 bond.
