Dover Officials Approve National Park Sites

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The Dover City Council has approved a plan to make two small parcels of the city's historic Green part of Delaware's proposed national park.

The Green will be included in a proposal that will be delivered to President Barack Obama soon, calling for creation of the First State National Monument. It would comprise four historically significant locations in Dover and New Castle County.

City Solicitor William Pepper said the easement for the national designation only covers the small patches of grass that form The Green. Some homeowners and businesses had worried what the impact would be for their properties.

U.S. Sen. Tom Carper is working to create a Delaware national park.
